Enjoy the party, tour the three exhibit buildings, and see the 11 new professionally designed exhibits.

This women’s event has raised over $100,000 in the past 6 years, and past donations have sponsored a classroom in the Education Center and Winifred Watson’s Bedroom in the Watson-Curtze Mansion.  Both rooms are used for the education of children. Your donation this year will help us continue making history that inspires.

Join us and help us tell this wonderfully rich story as we continue to make history together.

Committee members include Lauren Bauer, Emily Fessler, Erin Fessler, Susan Kanonczyk,  Barb Lechner, Abby Lechner, Leah Murphy,  Lisa NeCastro,  and Dana Zaphiris

We have a unique opportunity this year for Women Creating A Legacy guests.

The History Center is featuring an exhibit on the works of Eugene Iverd. This local painter and Erie school teacher modeled his paintings after the style of Norman Rockwell and featured Erie children in his works.

Iverd’s career included painting covers for the Saturday Evening Post, McCall’s, Ladies Home Journal, and the American Magazine. He also painted several paintings for Dorrance Co. (owners of Campbell’s Soup), the Rotarian, Monarch Foods, The Buffalo Evening News, and others.

With an exhibit of his works, students on field trips to the History Center can come to appreciate Iverd’s artistry, realize his place in history, and perhaps consider becoming an artist as a career choice.

The History Center has 29 paintings that have been permanently donated by the Erie School District.  Most of them are in need of conservation. The entire conservation cost is estimated to be between $70,050 and $82,650.

Might you consider becoming a sponsor of the 7th Annual Women Creating a Legacy event? A portion of proceeds from this year’s event will be used to help fund the restoration. Sponsors confirmed by April 22 will be included on the invitation.

Invitations will be mailed in May. If you’d like to receive an invitation or have any questions, please contact us at 814-454-1813 x 34 or gcicchetti@eriehistory.org.

Join us for Men at the Museum

Men at Musuem res v2

The History Center and honorary chairperson Matt Clark invite you to a cocktail party fundraiser just for men on Wednesday, June 19 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, music, cigars and shoe shining. Visit our beautiful campus and the Watson-Curtze Mansion, 356 West 6th Street.  We have a unique opportunity this year for our Men at the Museum guests.

The Watson-Curtze Mansion is the keystone of the History Center campus, and the solarium on the east side of the building is in need of a new roof. We believe the present roof is 50-60 years old. It has been repaired many times, but it is now in need of replacement. The new roof will cost about $42,000.

The gutters and downspouts are also in need of replacement. The City of Erie agreed to award the History Center a grant in the amount of $15,000 to handle this part of the project. This work began in March in agreement with the grant requirements. Our goal is to replace the roof as soon as possible.  This will stop the water leaks coming into the solarium.

Invitations will be mailed in May. If you’d like to receive an invitation or have any questions, please call us at 814-454-1813 x 34 or gcicchetti@eriehistory.org.

Men under the age of 40 will pay their age. For example, if you are 30 years old,  your price will be $30. For all other men, tickets are $100/each.
